GLOBAL RUNNING DAY

Every year on Global Running Day, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has a sale on race registrations. In 2017, we wanted to improve the experience for our customers.

To start with, we removed the modal windows and cut down the number of clicks to get to the registration page. The sale page has all the information needed to make a decision including: responsive prices that are visible with a roll over; an image gallery or video to show the race’s local flavor and some landmarks; a countdown clock to create some urgency; icons were added to show race features and describe the course; and new sorting features.

Worked closely with developers and web designers.

FINISHER ZONE

CONCEPT // ART DIRECTION // PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Co-creator and art director of the Finisher Zone, a results-experience tiered system, where finishers can look up race times, collect finisher badges and share their accomplishments.

In the fall of 2015, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series faced two challenges with individual runner results. The first challenge, results were displayed on our sister media site competitor.com, and the second problem—we needed better sponsorship opportunities. We brought a new results platform to the market, solved both challenges, and brought far more value to both runner and sponsor.

With “The Finisher Zone”, our team moved the results into the RunRockRoll.com site. By giving the results page a name, the sponsor had the opportunity to align with a tangible product, and gain high brand visibility through large amounts of traffic during race weekend.

By creating value in everyone’s experience, even the slower runners, we gamified The Finisher Zone. Runners can unlock virtual badges, receive assessments, download a finisher certificate, and tell their story. Badges, assessments, certificates—all places for a sponsor to integrate themselves naturally into the runner journey and provide value.

Set standards and consistencies by creating and maintaining a "box system" for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series brand. By regaining brand recognition which consistently communicates experience and continuing to deliver uniformity.

CONCEPT // STRATEGY // ART DIRECTION // STORYTELLING

Art Directed the largest campaign in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series' history. In 2017, the entire series celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Rock 'n' Roll Marathon & 1/2 Marathon San Diego, the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Marathon -- forever changing the sport of running.
